The theme for the 2020 Minnesota Civil War Symposium, Civil War in Context, will cover areas of the Civil War that aren't famous battles or generals. While learning about a long and infamous war, it can be easy to forget that these soldiers faced everyday problems like the right to vote from the battlefield, getting to church on time, or adjusting to new technology.
Civil War in Context creates a new perspective that many won't want to miss. On Saturday, April 4th, guests will not only hear from knowledgeable and engaging speakers, but also get the opportunity to tour two unique historical sites. One is the Frank Daggett Post, one of two remaining Grand Army of the Republic Posts left in the state. The other is the Forest City Stockade, a remnant of the US/Dakota War of 1862.
